HOW CAN I PERFORM AT A SHADES OF HONEY EVENT?
Great Question! We post on our social media account when we are looking for performers at upcoming mics. Please follow us @shades.ofhoney on Instagram to keep up to date when we are looking for performers!
IS THIS SPACE OPEN TO NON-BLACK, INDIGENOUS, PEOPLE OF COLORS (BIPOC)
Yes. Shades of Honey is an open mic space that gives priority to BIPOC folks first and so we give the opportunity to register/RSVP to BIPOC first. With that being said, we understand and take the responsibility of knowledge sharing through narrative art very seriously—accomplices are welcomed in the space and must agree to review our community norms and be in community in a good way.
WHERE IS SHADES OF HONEY HELD?
Shades of Honey is a pop up mic space and does not have a home base as of right now! We operate around Denver, Colorado and we rely on our wonderful business and organizations with physical spaces to host us. With that being said, Shades always looks different and we absolutely love that!
CAN I EMCEE A SHADES EVENT?
Yes. Please get in contact with us on Instagram @shades.ofhoney. We compensate our EMCEES $100 for their time and energy!
HOW DO WE REGISTER TO COME FOR “SHADES” EVENTS?
Normally, you can find our events under the events tab of our website or in our linktree! We have an eventbrite linked to all events which is where we ask folks to register/buy tickets/RSVP. We hope to see you in community soon!
ARE THERE FREE EVENTS?
YES! Shades of Honey is not in the business of constructing barriers to art and access— we do hold some free tickets for all of our events and most of our events operate on a sliding scale where you can donate what you have. BIPOC get priority for free tickets and then it is eventually opened up to the rest of the community. We are trying to buy a community building at the moment and all funds raised from tickets go toward us being able to support shades and other community organizations getting a physical space so that events in the future can be free!
ARE THE VENUES ACCESSIBLE?
YES. Shades of Honey prides ourselves on doing intentional outreach and garnering of physical space that is accessible in many different ways. We strive to have events that are wheelchair accessible, provide access guides, and more! If there are ways that we can make the space more inclusive, we would love to hear questions, comments, and concerns so that we may be in community with you in a good way.
